About This Campaign
MIT Panhellenic Membership
The MIT Panhellenic community consists of members with a variety of interests, backgrounds, and passions, all united under the values of sisterhood, scholarship, service, leadership, integrity, and growth. As scholars passionate about science, technology, and other areas of research, the MIT Panhellenic community provides members with opportunities to achieve and succeed at MIT and beyond. Panhellenic collegians gain valuable leadership and service experiences, a vast and passionate alum network, mentorship opportunities, lifelong friendships, and more. Through these opportunities, Panhellenic membership supports academic and career-oriented goals, all while cultivating personal development.
Our Goal
One of the main barriers for potential new members to join our community is the expense of membership dues, which help support each chapter’s critical operations. Our goal is to financially support new memberships in the Panhellenic community and provide equal opportunity to an experience that has drastically enhanced the MIT experience for many collegiate and alum members.
You can help us provide access to a supportive and empowering Panhellenic experience, regardless of our members’ financial circumstances. Your gift will directly influence an undergraduate woman or nonbinary-identifying individual at MIT by providing them the opportunity to become a Panhellenic member.
We are aiming to support 28 new members through scholarship awards.
During the 2023 scholarship cycle, we received 23 applications for support and were able to meet 91 percent of this need by awarding scholarships to 21 new members, three in the spring and 18 in the fall. This year, we hope to increase the number of scholarships awarded to ensure the Panhellenic community is accessible to everyone regardless of socioeconomic status.
Your gift will enable new members to access and contribute to the academic, professional, philanthropic, and social benefits of the Panhellenic community―and will support a new generation of leaders.
Suggested Donations:
A gift of $100 will cover one new-member initiation fee (average).
A gift of $150 will cover one new-member badge fee (average).
A gift of $250 will cover a full award: one new member’s initiation and badge fees.*
Panhellenic’s History at MIT
The founding members of MIT Panhellenic brought the first National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sorority, Alpha Phi, to campus in 1984, almost 100 years after the first fraternity was established on campus. Since Alpha Phi’s chartering, five additional Panhellenic chapters have joined MIT’s community: Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Phi Epsilon, Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Beta Phi, and Sigma Kappa. Collectively, MIT’s Panhellenic organizations make up the largest women’s group on campus, with over 550 members identifying as women or nonbinary in gender from across MIT’s academic majors and out-of-classroom interests.
*While the specific prices of badges and initiation fees may vary from chapter to chapter, the full award is designed to meet the cost of new-member badges and initiation fees for all MIT Panhellenic organizations. These are suggested donation levels, but please know that your gift of any size will go toward helping a new member become part of the Panhel community.
